But man did I ever struggle with it, at the beginning!
I love the process of building out a van. It’s an exciting part of the vanlife journey and this new build is allowing me to try things I didn’t do in my first van.
One of those exciting new things is cabinet framing using Extruded Aluminum (or 8020, as some people like to call it) instead of 100% wood framing.
Working with aluminum comes with its challenges. It’s definitely not as easy to work with than wood, glue, and screws. One of the challenges is that you can’t just run to the hardware store and pick up extra materials. You really need to plan everything out ahead of time to make sure you have everything you need.
While it was a frustrating experiment at the beginning, I’m starting to learn why this material is so great. It’s incredibly versatile and there are a ton of different ways you can fasten it together.
In my next videos, I will dive into the Why’s and How’s of cabinet making with Aluminum.

It’s no secret that moving into a tiny home means you will need to downsize (understatement of the year… I know).
I’ve given myself a timeframe for build #2. How long will it take me?
Installing a diesel heater on your own can feel intimidating. Especially when you first open the box of the Espar D2 Heater.
